Anne McDonnell
Limerick – born artist Anne Mc Donnell has been printmaking for over twenty years. In 1997 she received her Degree in Fine Art Printmaking from The Limerick School of Art and Design where she studied under Dietrich Blodau and Cóilín Murray.
In recent years Anne has introduced figures into her pieces and has been using these figures to explore themes of relationships with self /close relationships, tensions, conflict, dance of close relationships, self-doubt and various emotions. The figures are almost symbol-like in their simplicity, uncomplicated to reinforce her ideas.
I am drawing in an intuitive – manner working directly onto plates with bitumen. Each plate is a compilation of marks striving to evoke these emotions.
